Louise Murphy. Devon:

I started doing pilates with Isabel Medley two years ago. At the time I was working in Recruitment and we were fortunate to have Isabel come to our office once a week after work where her pilates session was a much welcome release from an often busy and stressful day. Isabel was fantastic at knowing exactly the kind of exercises which would help us unwind after a busy day and always had some helpful tips and advice regarding other alternative medicines and therapy. As well as the sense of mental well being I got from the sessions I also began to notice my flexibility start to improve since after years of running, my hamstrings had become very tight and suddenly I found that I was able to touch my toes for the first time in years! I also noticed that my posture was much improved at work and felt less tension around my shoulders and neck.

Last September I had a career change and embarked on PGCE to become a primary school teacher. Over the years I have sometimes suffered from lower back pain after standing for long periods of time and I was concerned that this would reoccur when teaching as I do tend to stand up for most of the day. However, I am delighted to say that I have continued with pilates whilst studying for the course and during my school placments have suffered no lower back pain at all. I firmly believe that pilates is a fantastic way to improve flexibility, posture and general well being and would recommend it to anyone.
